George Richard Deakins was born in Gosport and served with the Royal Navy between [Phone No removed]. He began his painting career while serving on a British Royal Navy cruiser in the Indian Ocean during World War II. With his very distinctive thick impasto style his works stand out in quality and originality. He favoured painting tropical scenes, a variety of shipping, and other landscape all often with people in the perspectives. He had numerous one man shows all around the world and on leaving the Navy he set his own studio up in Dunster, Somerset.
This is a harbour scene (Venice - which George painted).
There are some beautiful reds, oranges in this piece and it features Deakin's trademark pallet knife work and reflections on the water

This is a large painting within its original frame that measures 925mm by 420mm. The painting is impasto oil on board and is in overall practically perfect condition, measuring 800mm x 290mm.
The artist has a well-respected auction history, with his largest and rarest pieces correctly fetching several hundred pounds. This painting is sold at an attractive price reflective of its age dated 1970.
