Judith Yates spent her early life in Cheshire surrounded by a varied landscape embracing gentle rolling hills to the wild drama and open spaces of the Peak District. Her childhood consisted of countless outdoor rambles, from the Lakeland Mountains to Cornish coastal paths, all of which are ingrained in her memory and provide inspiration to this day.
Judith was obsessed with painting throughout her childhood, making the natural progression to study fine art painting at Art School, graduating in 1983.
Following her studies, she moved to Brighton and began selling her work through Brighton and London Galleries before making a moving to the Midlands, where she worked for many years as a designer and illustrator.
In recent years Judith has returned to her fine art past, deriving inspiration from the familiar landscapes of her childhood and the holidays spent exploring the coasts of North Wales and Cornwall, where she regularly returns.
Judith continues to produce work on site and from her busy studio at home. She uses an array of techniques and mediums in order to recreate the sensual pleasures of nature and to capture the drama and light of the landscape.
In 2013, Judith was shortlisted for the Artists and Illustrators ‘Artist Of The Year Award’, showing her work in the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.
Throughout her career Judith has exhibited in a range of galleries throughout the UK, with her paintings held in private collections both at home and abroad.
